About the Author

Aravind Balaji

Aravind Balaji works at the intersection of artificial intelligence, machine learning, and quantum computing, and spends much of his time trying to explain hard things to people who were told those things weren't for them.

He has previously worked in the technology industry and is currently pursuing his second master's degree in Information Systems at Northeastern University in Boston, USA. He also holds a master's degree in Software Engineering from the Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS), Pilani, India, and a bachelor's degree in Electronics and Communication Engineering from the SRM Institute of Science and Technology (SRM IST), Chennai, India.

His research sits where new computing ideas meet working systems. He has authored work on quantum-enhanced memory architectures for graph-based AI systems, and his other projects reach into multi-agent AI, where many programs coordinate to solve a problem together, and large-scale automated code analysis, where software learns to read and reason about other software.

His path into writing about quantum computing and artificial intelligence is not the usual one. Alongside his technical work he produces music, writes fiction, and publishes essays and videos for a general audience, and that mix is exactly where this book's style comes from.

Away from the screen, he enjoys nature gazing, swimming, and going to the gym. He is also a dedicated numismatist and philatelist, a collector of coins and stamps, and he will tell you that both pursuits are really about the same thing this series is about: small, ordinary-looking objects that turn out to hold whole histories, once you know how to look. A coin, fittingly, is where the series begins.

He is convinced that the most consequential ideas of our era should not require a graduate degree to understand, only a good explanation and an honest guide.
